See Through the World Around You by Nick Veasey

Award-winning photographer Nick Veasey uses a variety of specialised imaging equipment to create images that see within. Often collaborating with scientists and boffins, he has built a strong body of work that enables the viewer to appreciate what goes on underneath the surface. The subject matter of these enlightening images is entertaining and wide ranging. X-rays are primarily used for diagnostic radiography and crystallography; they are a form of ionizing radiation and as such can be dangerous.Veasey works in a lead-lined studio which is locked, with him on the outside, during the exposure of the images. Geiger counters are used to ensure safety. Once the x-ray has been exposed on to film it is then scanned at ultra high resolution with special scanning equipment tailored for the process. These digital images are then composed and embellished on computer. The whole process can take weeks, or even months. Often improvising and experimenting, Nick Veasey has created images of the everyday and the bizarre. The contrasting influences of inner strength and outer beauty that these pictures highlight remind us all not to judge by outward appearances.

these are for real! i read in bbc focus magazine about this guy, he goes round with a special x-ray machine/camera (not sure how it works) which he made himself and takes photos of these objects. To get the resolution, he takes multiple shots, each of a different layer, and then photoshops them together to make the 3d layered apperance you see above. I think his largest project is a 747, or other plane, which he got commissioned to do by the manufacturers for marketing. At least, i think so :s :D

These pics are really awesome. But X-rays give off radiation.. which can cause cancer... my mom didn't even let the docotors take one of my leg to check it if t was sprained.

As to the bus and earthmover X-rays, please note that many law enforcement agencies in the free world now employ wall piercing Xrays, in order to ascertain who or what is inside a structure without putting themselves in harms way. The range and scope of this method is of a variable nature, meaning that it can be manipulated to show a small patch of wall or a very large area, like the side of a house from the front to the backyard, all in one exposure.

Good point! Did he really get a massive bus full of people and do a long exposure in his studio? I don't think so!

Imagine the TSA at the airports having this kind of x-ray clarity, and you have to pass through the machine. Who needs Playboy.

Some of these look completely computer generated; eg. the stacked cooking pots next to the oven seem to be arranged perfectly straight and not all tilted hap-hazard. Also, did he really get a massive bus full of people and do a long exposure in his studio?
