Baccarat literally lighted up Salone del Mobile this year (April 12-17 2011) with its new collection in a surprising collaboration with la crème de la crème of contemporary design. Philippe Starck, Michele De Lucchi, Jaime Hayon, Eriko Horiki, Yann Kersalé, Arik Levy, Alain Moatti & Henri Rivière offered their particular vision of baccarat iconic models and also created new designs, blending crystal into the most unlikely materials, even using LED technology.

For the Highlights presentation, Baccarat took over Palazzo Morando (Via Sant'Andrea 6, Milan) that was beautifully transformed to the ultimate Baccarat scenery. In a fascinating combination of the always inspiring Baccarat tradition and sheer innovation, the Highlights collection offers a new dimension to Baccarat esthetics, looking younger and fresher than ever. Baccarat definitely achieved its goal to continue writing the history of light in glittering letters, creating pieces of ultimate beauty and perfection. Let there be magic then with this fascinating collection that we at Yatzer can’t stop looking at.

“I saw a very beautiful Baccarat chandelier. So far, so normal! Then it began to rain on the chandelier. How odd! The chandelier, still identifiably Baccarat, opened a large, white umbrella and drifted skywards. I shouted “Why?” And from afar came the chandelier’s response: “Because I am Marie Coquine, and because everything is possible in a dream”.

“When today’s traditions were created, they were the innovations of the day. I am convinced that the only way to approach any form of creation is to study the past in order to imagine the future”.

“Only diamonds are able to make the brilliance of light brighter still by magnifying its splendor through its sparkling radiance, identical to a shaft of light. Only crystal can achieve that same feat”.
Michele De Lucchi

“Eager to push its own limits ever further, Baccarat has opted for an absolute transition in 2011. From traditional incandescence to electroluminescence, from the classic filament to the magic of the led. The aesthetic codes of this new galaxy of lights have skyrocketed, propelled by high-technology. Crystal more than ever, revealed in its evanescent essence”.
