limited edition // IDYLLE perfume by Ora Ito for Guerlain

Guest Contribution by Doya Karolini

Curves are feminine, no doubt. And just like a tear drop can define a single moment in time, a curvy bottle that keeps -almost mystically- a certain precious fluid, like a magnificent perfume, can definitely define many such moments in a woman’s life.  And that is exactly what Guerlain wanted: a rain drop formed bottle for one of its female perfumes, “Idylle”. Unique as a tear drop and precious as rain.

IDYLLE perfume by Ora Ito for Guerlain

Ora Ito, very well known for his influential designs and the awards won, made it jump off the paper onto store shelves, by encapsuling what he calls “simplexity” creating the illusion of simplicity for objects with a complex purpose. And then, although his work was done, he decided to sketch one more bottle, identical to the one used massively by Guerlain, but this time not of glass. This 18 K gold bottle with the precious Baccarat details was sold to a collector, but can be purchased, if ordered directly to Guerlain, by all willing to pay 30,000 euros to obtain 100% inspiration.
But there is indeed a tricky part in this: those who will receive it, will not be able to actually smell the perfume, locked in it. Because in order to do so, there is no other way, but to break the bottle.

About Ora Ito

It is safe to say that the pelican flying over Marseille (France) brought that newborn that would later be named Ito Morabito to the correct family: Pascal Morabito, a well-known designer and retailer of luxury goods with a shop on the Parisian Place Vendome is his father, while Yves Bayard, one of the architects responsible for the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice is his uncle.  And he, the later enfant terrible of the industrial design, is the student that got kicked out of the design school, after only a year, but did not give up. Instead, he started working first for an architect and then for his Shoe – Majesty, Roger Vivier. A bit later, he started designing fakes for real brands (like Louis Vuitton and Apple) and put them on the internet to be soon discovered by those exact brands, who –surprise- not only were not about to sue him, but loved his work that soon became very very real.  Ito is better known for the Adidas and Wolfgang Joop perfume bottles, as well as for the aluminium Heineken bottle he designed in 2002 and which he received the labelling Oscar for.

My favourite fragrance is Acqua di gio of Armani. I have received many complements from using it. So I thought I'd buy one for my wife as well. Then a friend of mine rang up on me and said that there is a new perfume which is very rare to get. He said he saw it somewhere near Marseille. So I thought of having a look and I should say I was quite surprised by the reviews it got. I was astonished to know it costed around 30000 euros. I wondered whether I should buy this one. So i set out to find any discounts would be there for this product. Now came the funniest part when i asked them whether i could smell it they said I can only do so after purchasing it. I told them a sample would be okay. They said they had to break it inorder to do so. I asked them why they needed to break it. They said thats how this perfume is made. I was kept puzzled and browsed the internet once again and found out the whole matter. I came to realize that it was a mkistake from my part for not having thoroughly checked the matter pretty much. Now those of you who would ask me whether I bought it or is intending to buy,the answer would be a straight β€œNO”. I am not a goofball to do so!
