Whether it be a boutique or more classic type of hotel, even the chicest place to stay has been overshadowed by the newest trend in travel… the private, one-of-a-kind residence.

As Yatzer shared in a recent article about the Berlin based company Welcome Beyond, emphasis is now being placed on where you lay your head as the core ingredient in determining the success of your holiday.  The concept being that you could travel to the most beautiful or relaxing destination on the globe yet, it is where you go to bed at night, and spend time reflecting on your day that creates the experience necessary to truly “get away”.  There is also something to be said about beauty in your surroundings; the places that are hand selected and created for travellers are often decorated and designed with the utmost professionalism in many cases bestowing the ability for one who is occupying the space to imagine it is their home… even if just for a few days.

And that is the ultimate idea, to feel like this is your very own space, to walk out of your front door and onto the unfamiliar streets of your exotic locale as if you own the property you have just exited… as if you belong right here.  This brings a sense of adventure to your travels. So far no one has been able to jar or sell confidence -- yet this experience of living in a residence while travelling rather than staying in a hotel, changes ones’ perspective. It fills you up.

El Palauet Living is a shining example of this trend at work . El Palauet Living is a group of flats in Barcelona that represent this new travel experience in Barcelona, Spain.

Sitting atop the ritzy avenue of Passeig de Gràcia, six suites have been carefully constructed in a building dated back to 1906 – although you would never know this by the modern look of the façade.  Each suite is unique; no two are alike in any way other than the spectacular view of the Passeig de Gràcia and the majestic Tibidabo Mountain.

Seeing that the building is over one hundred years old, there were many features that were kept and restored in the suites.  Features such as stained glass windows, distinctive ceilings (45 different ceilings to be exact), hallway moldings and an array of other features bring character to each space and offer depth amongst the modern furniture.  The combination of the old and the new, and the accomplishment of allowing the two to compliment one another is stunning.  Modern furniture (pieces by Eames, Saarinen, Van der Rohe and Starck amongst others) offer clean lines and cozy monochromatic colour schemes.

In addition to one of a kind design, El Palauet Living offers guests a Personal Assistant to complete that sublime feeling of a holiday. Excuse us while we order our in-room massage...
