Bold, striking architectural elements and refined interiors characterize the four-level Harvey Nichols luxury flagship in Jakarta. The 9,000 square meter store features exclusive international brands in an environment distinctly tailored to the time-honored traditions and cosmopolitan flair of Indonesia.
For Harvey Nichols’ entry into Indonesia, the design team created a distinct design language by referencing the native parang form, a royal batik pattern based on the movement of a sea wave, and fused it with British op art to create a custom pattern that is utilized in a diorama of intrigue and discovery throughout the store.

For the interior of Harvey Nichols, Callison designed each floor around the concept of an artistic environment. Each level’s open space plan, meandering layout, organic circulation, curving walls, smoke glass screens and dramatic lighting help promote a sense of drama and theatrical movement throughout.

Each of the floors have a distinctly different energy which creates a new shopping experience for the customer, yet the entire store design is linked together through bold, playful architecture that supports the fashion,” according to Andy Thaemert, Lead Designer. Capitalizing on the craftsmanship of local Indonesian artisans, the store interior includes handcrafted tiles, custom furnishings, unique metal fabrication and woodwork. The skilled level of craftsmanship, the custom pattern language, and the Harvey Nichols namesake logo, are referenced throughout the interior architecture and visual merchandising.
