Montreal’s furniture store Domison has commissioned the design firm Paprika to create a magical Christmas window installation. Avoiding typical Christmas lightings and decorations, Paprika came up with a stunning idea referencing ICE, WATER and WINTER in a holiday spirit. Using Canadian mineral glass water bottles filled with the DOMISON logo, the design firm created an unusual tree. Over 300 bottles are hung at various heights to give the random shape of the tree. Each bottle is filled with a DOMISON logo. The end result is a floating enchanted winter creature. More contemporary art than decoration, the tree is light up by 8 powerful spot lights giving it a crystal ice glow. The installation took 4 people and two full days to produce and will be displayed until January 2009. Its magical side truly comes out at night when the city is dark.

about DOMISON

DOMISON is the brainchild of Thien &  My, who are also the creators behind Periphere, one of Canada’s most celebrated design studios. The furniture line is the expression of a distinctive lifestyle, one that is about culture, arts, travel, modernity, sophistication, comfort and the city. Taking cues from the owners own way of living, Domison represents their idea of how modern living should be. “We wanted to create a collection with a totally unique identity, one that reflects people like us" says Thien.

Entirely designed in Montreal, the collection includes furniture for the bedroom, living room and dining room. The new line also includes small accessories.

In Montreal, Thien and My decided to open their own flagship store in June 2008. Located on the fashionable Saint-Laurent boulevard, the Domison flagship store showcases, besides the signature collection, the talent of independent design studios from Canada and abroad. “We are an independent player in an industry dominated by large enterprises and conglomerates” says My. “It is just natural that with our showroom, we intent to promote the work of smaller studios who have a very focus and honest vision

Since the launch, DOMISON has presented the work of Loyal Loot, Brave Design, Furni, Looolo, Rita, C’est pas moi c’est ma soeur, Coe & Waito, and Jennifer Graham. All these studios are Canadians! Moreover, the store exclusively present a selection of art books from the highly artistic and family-owned German publisher Steidl, for whom Karl Lagerfeld is a frequent collaborator.

As they both say, “the real objective with our store is to create a space where we can put forth inspiring ideas, concepts and suggestions that keep pushing forward the boundaries of furniture, style, interiors and design”.
