Lauren Del Vecchio is an incredible young woman that found out her heart was failing in October 2007 at the age of 25. Her chronic illness called Scleroderma, is a widespread connective tissue disease that involves changes in the skin, blood vessels, muscles, and internal organs. Although professional opinions say there is no cure for this, Lauren is committed to fight for her chance to live and have a healthy heart.
The heart has long been used as a symbol that reflects our spiritual, emotional and moral values. If the brain tells you how someone thinks, the heart tells you the essence of who that someone is. When your eyes weep, that's the heart showing you and others that you cannot contain yourself. When you smile and laugh, that's your heart showing everyone that this is a moment to remember. When you look at someone's eyes and know that they will be a huge part of your life from the moment you meet them, that's your heart allowing you see deeply to the roots of your own emotional potential. I definitely have felt all these with Lauren, reinforcing every moment that she is an integral part of not only Yatzer but also my life.

We all hope to live long productive lives that allow us to feel alive, moved and at times shaken with emotion. Travel, friendships, lovers, family and experiences remind us of the fragility and at the same time, magnificence of life. We often look ahead as a way to envision what we want out life, but often forget to actually center ourselves on the ground to feel the gift of being able to breathe at this very moment. This holiday season we reflect and congregate as a symbol and tradition to celebrate the same thing, life. In this case, Lauren is reminded of the fragility of life every second of every day and it is her tenacity to cure her heart and connect with all of you that has honored Yatzer with her friendship and her beautiful words we all get to share.
