Yatzer Relaunch 2010

Have you ever wondered why you prefer visiting a website more often than another and what exactly makes you a loyal reader? According to my opinion we tend to search for websites with good taste, beautiful photographs, frequent updates, news from the field of our interests and simple interfaces which respect our on-line needs and exhale design freshness.  In other words, website perfection!  Most of the above mentioned reasons are based on the content of a site; the more selective the content is, the more people follow it!
You may wonder why I wrote the above introduction. The answer is, that I will never forget that 200 people visited Yatzer during the first month of operation after its official launch on January 21, 2007. Today, an average of almost 350,000 readers visit the site on a monthly basis generating more than 1.000.000 Pageviews. This gives me the strength to move on and make the best out of Yatzer's potential. However after two years of solely editing, in 2009 I invited some design lovers to contribute for Yatzer and I was impressed by the positive reaction. Today I'm grateful and thankful to my Team, those who remain and those who passed by leaving some beautiful stories in our records.
Since 2007, thousands of submissions have been arriving in my mailbox but not all of them were Yatzerized, something that will remain the same in the future. The competition is big, there are thousands of design websites "in the next window" and at the same time thousands of interesting projects which are waiting to be published. What I've learned throughout these years is to always follow my taste and be selective of what will finally be Yatzerized, because that is the only way to protect Yatzer's content and embellish it in the best possible way for all of YOU.

You may have noticed that today our interface is completely different. Two years after the first "face-lift" which was visible as of May 1, 2008 we did it again! A beautiful season has reached its end and a new one begins; stronger, fresher and more dynamic. We changed our interface due to great expectations and a clear vision to create one of the most inspiring on-line sources for design enthusiasts. We hope that it won't take you a long time to get used to our new "HOME" and we promise to do our best to convince you that Yatzering was never more fascinating! However, according to John Henry Newman "Growth is the only evidence of life" (Apologia Pro Vita Sua, 1864) and we hope that you will enjoy our growing process as much as we do!

Yatzer will continue sharing the latest in design, art, architecture, travel and fashion, and work hard at providing YOU, our readers with an inspiring palette that provokes creativity, discourse and entertainment. We’ve just hit a milestone, and there are countless miles ahead of us, always with YOU by our side!

"We will fly high" // lyrics

Oh, its time to leave this place for good
Say goodbye and hear the magic truth
It’s the right time

We will fly high, lalala lalala
to the bright sky, lalala lalala
just look up now, lalala lalala
it’s the right time, lalala laaaaa

Oh, don’t be afraid to look behind
Share a smile and then just walk, don’t run…
It’s the right time

We will fly high, lalala lalala
to the bright sky, lalala lalala
just look up now, lalala lalala
it’s the right time, lalala laaaaa

Don’t hold you breath just take your time
A new beginning is in your heart
Don’t try to lie to yourself to stay
A whole new life is here today
All your dreams now will come true
I promise that I’ll be with you

As Yatzerina I dare to "borrow" a saying from Nikos Kazantzakis "I said to the Almond tree, "Friend, speak to me of God" and the Almond tree blossomed"... In my case I said to God "God speak to me about Beauty, Quality, Passion, Inspiration, Uniqueness, Originality and YATZER appeared"....

I admit that I didn't know that this 100ft sailing beauty was created by Stockholm based Claesson Koivisto Rune architects, so I thank you for sharing it with us.

Dear Yatzer:) thank you for an amazing blog. I´m sad to say that i am a little disapointet in the new interface design. The beauty of Yatzer used to be its simplicity, and full attention to the content displayed in the articles, with large centered pictures and no disturbing elements. The new page has a very heavy right side, that i think is very disturbing to the content. I wish it would not show when you click into the article. It is not a problem at the homepage, but i think it take away some of the focus and add alot of noise when you just want to see large beautifull pictures of the design. Just a thought from a regular user:) Karen Marx

Absolutely stunning! I have been following Αfroditi Κrassa's work for a while and she has created some of my favorite brand and product design concepts, a great talent. Deserves the restaurant design award nominated for.

Liked the previous one. Clear, clean, unique and more prestigious. The new one is like all the others. There is no atmosphere in here. Too commercialized, but i understand the needs. Hope the content will remain at the same level and style.

You have hit my highest expectations as expected. Congratulations Costas, well done to you and your team. The site sucks one to all spots, it's overwhelming and it keeps one hooked. It is inviting, discovering and empathetic. You know what your visitors are looking for. Great job.

Three things represents the talented men : Silence when all the others are bubbling, thinking when all the others are dreaming on and acting when all the others are just waiting... worth waiting when you were thinking and acting the new Yatzer...congrats! perfect...all the best!

Liked the old version much more and enclose some of the previous comments that match my feelings and opinion .... thanos, (2010-09-02 08:27:50) & karen marx, (2010-09-01 23:50:17). When you have a succesful site you do not change its lay out as it is a key success factor. Yatzer choices will remain at a very high level but the site is not as clean as it used to be... Very busy... People will be curious to see the new layout at the beginning but you need to see if they will continue to come back as they used to do and it is important to pay more attention to the negative opinions than the good comments. Keep walking and making a difference ! RESPECT !

I agree with vpbartz(2010-09-03 23:44:39 )that you don't change a lay out when its successful, unless you have the instinct and the good timing to move on to the next step, when so many other sites try to be like the old Yatzer version (for example: www.zeutch.com) ! You just can't stay still!!!

I say WOW! The "Yatzer site - wonder boy" is growing up, maturing wonderfully to a charming young man! Obviously you are growing too, Costas, together with your raving fan-audience! Congratulations! You did it again!!!!!!! :-)

Def liked the older version more. Was crisp and clear, this is noisy and a bit stuffy. I do understand a site has to develop commercially with more features and all.. but, oh boy, previous layout was a killer design that worked (so why change), this is just average good.

i reeeally love the new design. just one little thing i stumble over during every single visit: on the site's home, i always want to click the big two-columns wide graphic to get to the content it displays... but this is just peanuts. for the rest: if i had more than two thumbs, they would be 'likes' too! kind regards.
