From Thursday 12th March till 25th April 2009,  Maria Dimitriadi will present the latest work of Stergios Stamou titled ‘Recorded’ at the Medousa art gallery in Athens, Greece.. ‘Recorded’ presents 6 central pieces which are brought into life from the same source. This idea is interpreted by freestanding and wall mounted pieces together with oversized constructed elements and independent works of art.

The pieces have clarity, integrity and wholeness. The structure and form take a second step in these works and the meaning is brought forward by the use of text together with vibrant light. In order to give great emphasis to this idea the text is incorporated on the art pieces for everyone to read. These statements vary from philosophical, religious, literature or phrases from everyday people expressing their everyday views and concerns. In the large scale freestanding piece there is the presence of the cross and text taken from the Coran. The art work named ‘the road to the artist’s residence’ consists of neon light which symbolizes the street of dreams, the street of creativeness, the street of confusion and at the same time the original sketch of the artwork is on display.

On the wall mounted artwork there is the original fidelity text inscribed from the 1952-1953 events (in the form of a papyrus) together with a photograph of every human being present and a light which symbolizes the memory of these souls. In the work which is portrayed as medicine shelving the artist is representing the joy of life together with social issues and queries which identify his own personal life. The last piece named ‘Bench’ portrays love through the much dynamic dialogue of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Here the text is inscribed on the neon lights which shape the actual bench.

Text and light are the prime uses for Stergio Stamos’s work, giving out a loose and minimalistic effect, put forward by the intensity of feelings and the existence of being.
