We had warned you about the amazing job that Culdesac™ and Studio Marisol have been doing since a long time ago, experimenting with new materials and incorporating human hair to their fantastic creations. Their Boisbuchet Summer Workshops have already gained them a lot of fame since it is the prefect excuse to gather renowned designers, architects and artists who live and work together with the participants for a length of six to ten days. We were waiting with eager to see the results of these fortunate collaborations and it seems that time has finally come to make our wish come true. Spanish designer Valentin Garal, working in communication at Domaine the Boisbuchet (Vitra Design Museum summer workshops program), teamed up with Elena Gil Chan, Ignacio del Toro and Bryony Phillips and conceived a cradle that doesn’t look like anything you have seen before. This particular design incorporates hair braids and is called, of course, Hair Cradle!

Hair Cradle is totally handcrafted, using oak wood that comes from the old mill of a French domain. The blond hair braids have been sewed using vegetable fibers and give a totally ethereal effect to the cradle, as if it was taken out of an old fairy tale. As Valentin Garal explains, the Hair Cradle tries to transform the vision of luxury and the idea we have about old-fashioned objects by producing a high quality, useful, and poetic product.

Hair Cradle stands between art and design, between dream and reality, proving that imagination is the perfect guide in order to revisit established concepts. Hair is something vivid after all and in our eyes it symbolizes perfectly lust for life. Yatzer promises to stay tuned, totally sure that a lot of inspiring designs are about to come from Valentin Garal, Culdesac™ and Studio Marisol in the near future.
