The Bistrot, the new vintage Parisian eatery and bar on buzzing Jalan Kayu Aya - also known as Jalan Laksmana and Jalan Oberoi - fondly known as the ''eat Street'' in Seminyak, Kuta district, Bali is a glamorous new addition brought to us from the magical imagination and vision of Moroccan-born Interior Decorator Zohra Boukhari and her husband Blaise Samoy founder of Hishem Furniture.

From the many trademark lamps designed by Boukhari, a soft glow is cast across a modern restaurant and bar space that showcases pared back design with touches that are reminiscent of a bygone era. The Bistrot has an industrial feel, with impressive structural elements such as a large glass frontage and an impressive arched ceiling - highlighted through the warm exposed brickwork and stripped back wood - resembling an impressive New York loft. However, Bistrot is not really urban renewal rough, it's true glamour at heart.

The menu is absolutely delicious, with a good balanced combination of soul foods, incorporated into a modern bistro touch, inspired by the typical French ‘brasserie’ that does however honour the best of world cuisine. For example the homemade Foie Gras Terrine is found happily on the menu next to diverse selections such as Grilled Blood Sausage with Caramelized Pear or Citrus Cured Salmon with Watermelon and Herbed Feta. The Crying Tiger Steak being recommended and nothing at all to cry about, along with the classic Steak Tartar, Tapas, Fillet Mignon au Poivre Vert, Moroccan Spiced Baked Red Snapper, crisp salads such as Slippery Lobster and Pomelo or a heartier Lamb Navarin, all crafted by the skilled hands and culinary creativity of Yehudi Van Meckeren, the Belgian Head Chef and his carefully picked team. Desserts are a celebration of sweetness -why not try the Young Mango Tarte Tatin, Spiced Fruit Salad or Bitter Sweet Chocolate Souffle with homemade Hazelenut Gelato.

The warmth within this bold space stems from a sense of personality. Sumptuous furnishings, antiques and artifacts from around the Indonesian archipelago, and mainly from the owners’ private collection, adorn this restaurant, adding that distinct touch of magic. Bistrot showcases a fun vintage approach to modern design, but still has a distinctive heart that's very much Indonesian. As if we didn't need another excuse to escape to Bali, Bistrot's now the newest and best yet!
