Design with life

Design with life

Shi Yuan has created a way to turn normally passive things into something with a life of its own. Like this wallpaper that reacts to heat, the painting that reacts when you touch it, or the daily calendar that fades away during the day.

It is made using heat sensitive paint - and it is incredible.

Heat Sensitive Wallpaper

Turn up the heat and your wallpaper starts to blossom. Here with the radiator is off...and on!

A painting with feelings

Show people how you feel by touching the painting.

The day that simply faded away...

Watch how the day slowly fades away with this calendar

This is an awesome work, what an art work! I am spell bounded by seeing it. I sent this to my friends to check it out through GTalk, as soon as I came across it. Excellent post, keep up the good work.

Good stuff. If the cost is reasonable, it is worth having such things around which gives you a change of atmosphere with heat changes.

great idea. Also, I wouldn't mind a wallpaper that indicates the weather outside so that I know if I need sunscreen or an umbrella when I leave in the morning.

So could we use this ink on Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il and Putin? Would they become sweet friendly flowers if we heated them up? Who in the world wants to heat up their house just to see their wallpaper change? I wouldn't need it here in Florida.

Very nice, I remember quite a similar project made by front design about three years ago for an exhibition in Stockholm, Front made a wallpaper where the patttern where appearing with the sun light, it was a UV sensitiv wallpaper. But well this Front design project was really underground.

So I can only know what day it is during the daytime, or during heat? I love in Oregon, does this mean I would never know what day it is? LAME.

What, didn't you guys go through the hypercolour T-Shirt era in the 80's? The colour dies after a couple of years. Fad!

This ink technology has been around for yours, Problem is the colours you can achieve are limited and often the transitional colours are murky and confused. It looks a lot better here than it ever would in reality
