Each month, for the past 5 years I’m responsible for a two page column called “fashion home” which is published monthly in the best interior design magazine in Greece, MAISON & DECORATION. The column is about how fashion trends affect the industrial design trends and vice versa // On the 26th of August 2007, the September issue of MAISON & DECORATION was published and the topic of the “fashion home” was MASCULINE design. HERMES, Marc Jacobs, Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld amongst others were the four fashion designers who gave a masculine feeling in their A/W 2007-08 prêt-a-porter collections. (Off the record the September 2009 issue has exactly the same theme, since Jean Paul Gaultier, HERMES, GUCCI, Calvin Klein, Yves Saint Laurent and Yiorgos Eleftheriades love seeing a woman dress manlike which is portrayed in their A/W 2009-10 collections.)

If you’ve been wondering why I made the above introduction…
The reason is simple///
One of my selections for the "fashion home" of September 2007 issue (photo below) was the V20 Fabric vase designed by Changedesign which has been awarded two years later with a RED DOT DESIGN AWARD in the product design category, not only as a ‘high design’ item, but also for its innovative and aesthetic features as well as its ability to distinguish itself among many other anonymous goods.
And now tell me...isn’t this great !  Apparently, we at MAISON & DECORATION seem to be years ahead in design trends!

The V20 is the first of a series of vases that feature taped fabric. Its design is composed of pieces of textile and a waterproof membrane that create a completely water-resistant object. Its particular tailored construction makes it an ideal fashion object.  In fact, V20’s unique design is completely cut, sown and sealed with impermeable tape for a functional yet creative piece. A strong, creative collaboration between worldwide contemporary artists was given for these limited-edition vases.

The constuction of the V20 vase in four steps

  1. Starting from a piece of fabric with a waterproof membrane
  2. The pieces that form the vase are cut
  3. The pieces are sewed together and then taped to make it 100% waterproof.
