I first heard about him back in 2012, whilst visiting Paris… And although I’ve never met him in person, I follow him digitally on his stylish journeys around the world.

He’s Cypriot but he’s been living in London for years now, working as a creative consultant and blogger. Magazines around the world respect his impeccable style, and educational institutions in the UK seek his advice about fashion and the luxury market. I’m of course talking about Matthew Zorpas, founder of ‘The Gentleman Blogger’ and one of London’s most dapper gents.

Matthew has travelled a lot over the years, constantly shooting inspiring new stories for his blog which has entailed various collaborations with many different photographers on the way. The Gentleman Blogger is a must-visit online destination for anyone interested in men’s lifestyle, street style and shopping secrets, as well as art, dining, events and exhibitions in London and the rest of the world. There is a fine red thread running through all of the stories on Matthew’s blog, and that is his continuous and tireless exploration about what it means to be a gentleman in our times. This is why I decided to get in touch with him some time ago and ask him to share his knowledge and opinion on the matter; Matthew promptly replied with a thought-provoking list of ‘rules of being a gentleman’, which I have the pleasure of sharing with you today!

MATTHEW ZORPAS’ 10 RULES OF BEING A GENTLEMAN
- Patience and composure are crucial for a gentleman.
- A crisp white shirt communicates the purity of intention.
- Always portray an equal amount of humility and confidence.
- Chivalry is the standard form of respect.
- Every man is born a man, take devoir to become a gentleman.
- Elegance is timeless.
- The suit you wear will reflect the power you felt the moment you put it on.
- Never belittle anyone to make yourself bigger.
- A gentleman is only as good as his word.
- Today’s gentleman embodies integrity and honour while appreciating art, travelling and cultural encounters.

{YatzerTip} In September 2014, Matthew Zorpas launched his first self-published book.
