& then design is a new and exciting design practice established in the heart of Nottingham. It is a collaboration between two experienced design graduates. James Bowler & Samuel Wright. Their aim is to offer a fresh and contemporary style within design, creating contemporary products for the contract and domestic markets. A spectrum of experience across the industry enables them to offer a wide range of design services to their clients. Their design practice can deliver a complete service from initial concepts through to the finished products, sourcing manufacturers for bespoke and high-volume production. Their passion and creativity can be utilised to work with other practices developing their projects. Their experience and potential spans furniture, product and interior design.

James Bowler
James studied Furniture & Product design at Nottingham Trent University. His childhood was spent between Frankfurt, Germany and the great Yorkshire countryside. In 2006 he was given the opportunity to work for the multi award winning industrial designer Isao Hosoe in his Milan studio where he participated in the designing of office task chairs. After, James returned to the UK to work for the renowned producer and manufacturer Thorsten Van Elten where he assisted with product development, sourcing manufacturers, packaging and logistical solutions. Both experiences gave him the insight and knowledge to establish the & then design studio

Samuel Wright
Influenced by the creative environment he was surrounded by throughout his up-bringing, Samuel studied Furniture & product design at Nottingham Trent University achieving First Class Honours. Over the past years Samuel has developed an understanding based around designing and manufacturing products. The opportunity to work with Noble Russel Design Professionals enhanced his knowledge across many design disciplines and formed his desire to be part of a fresh new design practice

Jack
The considered aesthetic of this family is set to compete in the high end of the contract market. Jack was developed for BaylissWrightFurniture. Jack has been designed to fit in a variety of contemporary contract and domestic environments. The fully upholstered carcass is available in fabric and leather, with future aspirations to produce a show wood option. The elegant cantilevered chrome legs were the original inspiration for this series, accentuated by the form of the upholstered bent ply carcass. Jack delivers the individual aesthetic, comfort and style to the design conscious audience, all necessary to be successful within the competitive contract market.

Quba
The Quba stacking chair and table combine to offer a clean and contemporary alternative to the contract market. The unique seat shape aims to surround the occupant to enhance comfort. Supported by a tubular steel frame, the plywood seat is available in a range of natural wood or colour finishes. The versatility of this stylish range lends itself perfectly to the modern restaurant, bar and corporate environments, with the added potential to be incorporated into domestic interiors. The architectural aesthetic of the Quba chair has been developed alongside the practical considerations for it’s intended location. Quba can be stacked comfortably in columns of four, each fitting neatly within one another. The tub like shell also allows ease of handling the chair

Fox
The Fox Floor Light is a multi-adjustable light source designed to be incorporated into the open plan working and living environment. The combination of the polished aluminium frame and white shades offers a clean organic aesthetic and allows Fox to be easily integrated into a wide range of interiors. The adjustable light sources allows Fox to perform as a reading light or an up-light, or for both functions simultaneously. It performs as such using the three pivoting shades attached via frictional hinges, to hold any desired arrangement to suit the users lighting requirements. Fox, therefore allows for a multitude of lighting options performing from one central source
