British sculptοr Matthew Simmonds was born in 1963. In 1999 he received international recognition as sculptor, after winning the first prize at the Verona International Sculpture Symposium. Simmonds has since then been warranting the honor through several prizes awarded to him and participating in various international sculpture symposiums, in Italy and beyond. He has exhibited in Italy, China and the USA. What has been an early childhood fascination - stone buildings - is still present in his artwork. Influenced by medieval architecture, Simmonds achieves to give a new perspective of life through and within the space that the viewer's eye can imagine. The past and the present coexist in harmony in his work, providing the viewer with a sense of 'voyage' through one's eyes and the tranquility of a breathing marble, opening up like a spacious place in order for the viewer to rest.
