Chessmen Inspire A Family Of Stools by Giorgio Bonaguro

Words by Costas Voyatzis

With his masterful carvings sculpted out of solid blocks of scented cedarwood, Italian designer Giorgio Bonaguro has created a family of stools inspired by chessmen heads for Italian brand Icons Furniture.  The stools themselves include the ''Alfiere'' stool which has a geometric form interrupted by a large diagonal cut exactly like a Bishop's chess piece head which acts as a magazine rack; ''Regina'' on the other hand, has a more aristocratic and imposing shape inspired by the Queen of chess. Finally ''Pedone'' borrows its shape from the humble Pawn, the weakest piece in the chess game.

In order to seat yourself on one of these beautiful stools you don’t need to be familiar with the rules of chess nor move them around on a chessboard on the floor. Just move them around randomly and you won't lose any game as you admire their beautiful shapes!
