Back in distant 2016, if you recall, we celebrated Yatzer’s 10th year anniversary with “10 by Yatzer”, a limited edition collection of design objects that we presented during Milan Design Week (where else?) in a pop-up shop in the Brera district. A lot has transpired since then, some good such as the opening of Yatzerlab, our creative studio in Athens focusing on design-based marketing and branding across digital and analogue applications, and some not so good – a global pandemic comes to mind – but what hasn’t changed is our creative spirit. And what better way to channel our creativity than a second limited edition collection on the occasion of our new office opening. Bridging Yatzer’s digital realm with the physical world once again, “The Verdant Edition” comprises 10 collectible pieces designed in collaboration with an all-star roster of international and Greek designers.

The collection includes custom editions of existing products such as Lorenza Bozzoli’s “Miss Marble” jar for EDITIONS MILANO and a Twist-Action Ballpoint Pen by KRAMA studio, and brand-new designs like a bookmark by Anastasia Kessaris and a set of metallic vases by UNPR18T (Un.Processed Realities), all exclusively produced for Yatzer. From decorative, one-of-a-kind pieces like the “Escape” marble keyboard by NONOBJECT and Daphne Leon’s ceramic “Forest plate”, to more utilitarian objects such as the (p)lush GREEN notebook by Perrakis Papers and our own “Verdant” tote bag, the collection reflects Yatzer’s eclectic mind set as well as its founder Costas Voyatzis’ discerning taste. A myrrh-scented soy candle housed in a handcrafted vessel by Gagiatsos Ceramics and a hoodie designed in collaboration with GARMENT 2112 round up the collection.

A restricted colour palette of green and black reflects Yatzerlab’s brand identity but it’s also an ode to nature’s inexorable drive to flourish against all odds – a sorely needed message after a tough couple of years for the global community – which is why for every purchase we are planting a tree in collaboration with the non-profit environmental organization we4all. The collection’s “verdant” theme extended to the Verdant Edition pop-up shop which took over our Athenian office space for three days in early December 2022. This being the first time we opened our doors to the public, we pulled out all the stops transforming Yatzerlab into a truly verdant dreamscape with the help of floral stylists and owners of gardening store Kopria, Ifigeneia Filopoulou and Vasilis Nzeremes, who filled every room with an ethereal mix of asparagus fern and limonium. Centred on a striking 10-metre-long “cloud” suspended above the minimal product display, the verdant scenography was cleverly illuminated by lighting designer and founder of Site SpecificGiorgos Samoladopoulos, who is also responsible for Yatzerlab’s office lighting, including a bespoke chandelier incorporating 10 Black Binic table lamps by Ionna Vautrin for FOSCARINI in a custom version created exclusively for the “10 by Yatzer” collection.

Extending throughout the premises, the visual, tactile and aromatic thrills of the verdant installation was complemented by the sumptuous flavours of green (pistachio) and black (chocolate) macarons custom-made for the event by talented pâtissier Kriton–Minas Poulis of Bon Bon Fait Maison and the effervescent fruitiness of Cladestine, an organic rosé from De Mena winery in France, courtesy of Ilias Georgopoulos, founder of Authentic Wine, whose passion for biodynamic wineries and “natural” wines was a perfect fit with our nature-themed pop-up concept. An all-sensory experience by all accounts, we couldn’t be happier with the event’s turnout, not only was the collection sold out, but we also had the opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones.

For those that couldn’t make it, scroll down to discover the collection and the talented friends we had the pleasure of collaborating with.

There’s something quite satisfying in reading a printed book rather than leafing through virtual pages on an e-book on an iPad or Kindle, at least in our view. And since folding the pages of a book is a big no-no, bookmarks are essential. Combining functionality, durability and elegance, this limited-edition bookmark in laser cut satin stainless steel is coated with electrostatic paint and digitally imprinted text. Fittingly, it also seeks to convey a message on behalf of all the writers, namely to mark his/her words.

{ Trained as an architect, Anastasia Kessaris has followed in the footsteps of her father Costas Kessaris, the founder of Greece’s leading fine jewellery retailer and producer, joining the eponymous company after spending seven years working under subversive French designer Philippe Starck, and creating her own brand of imaginative jewellery. Anastasia’s distinctively fresh and playful aesthetic of bold forms and vibrant colours is complemented by her innovative approach exemplified by creations such as titanium fine jewellery, diamonds cut into custom shapes like numbers, nano-ceramic painted 18k gold elements, and colourful enameled pieces adorned with gemstones. Her statement titanium earrings in styles such as the Geisha, Tropicalia, and Disco Clique have been spotted on elegant fashionistas from all over the world. }

An indispensable tool for any creative (at least in our opinion), notebooks are where we write down our ideas so they can grow roots - sometimes we draw on them, sometimes we just doodle. So, it’s only natural that the Verdant Edition has its own (green) notebook. Sporting Yatzerlab’s brand colours (green covers / black edges), the 140-page notebook combines usability with tactile pleasure thanks to Colorplan’s (p)lush paper covers. Wearing its verdant heart on its sleeve, the partly printed, partly embossed word GREEN on the cover is a playful pun on Yatzer’s bilingual identity: Greek-born (GR), English-speaking (EN).

{ Perrakis Papers is a 4th generation family-owned company that has been procuring fine printing papers for the Greek market since 1887. Founded by Constantine Perrakis, the company was the first Greek paper supplier to import papers from abroad. It’s now run by Ariadne Perrakis, a lawyer, for whom paper is a magnificent obsession. }

EDITION OF 21

Bridging past and present, this limited-edition hoodie is silk printed with Yatzer’s signature ‘y’ morphing into a Corinthian column, the most floral of the three classical orders of Ancient Greek architecture. Silk printed on the sleeve is a quote by Aristotle, «Εν πάσι γαρ τοις φυσικοίς ενεστί τι θαυμαστόν» (In all things of nature there is something of the marvellous), while the Yatzer x 2112 logo is hand-embroidered on the front. Made with 100% non-GMO Greek cotton, the hoodie comes in two sizes with a unique hand-engrave marble tag.

{ GARMENT 2112 is an Athens-based premium streetwear label that specializes in menswear and unisex clothing. The brand was founded by clothing manufacturer and designer Nick Paraskevakis in 2020 in an attempt to combine modern luxury with socially conscious messages whilst paying homage to Greek history through the eyes of the new generation. GARMENT 2112 draws inspiration from Greek mythology and history, interweaving the past with the present by creating intense prints, embroidery and other innovative techniques underpinned by Nick’s 15 years of experience in garment manufacturing and production. All the clothes are produced in Greece from high quality Greek non-GMO cotton sourced mainly from Thessaly and Thrace. }

What does ‘quiet time’ smell like? For us, it’s a combination of myrrh, incense and honey, the soothing scents that are distilled in this limited-edition scented candle. Housed in a handmade stoneware vessel which has been heated to 1235 - 1240oC for durability and painted forest green, the candle was conceived as much as a beautifully crafted, tactile object as a mood setter.

{ Originally founded on the island of Sifnos in 1964, Nikos Gagiatsos’ Athens-based ceramics studio combines traditional techniques with modern processes. Hand-crafted on electric wheels and fired up in state-of-the-art gas ovens, the studio’s products range from fireproof cooking utensils and tableware to decorative objects in a variety of styles, colours and sizes. }

EDITION OF 10

This sculptural jar is a limited-edition customization of ‘Miss Marble’, a series of traditional marmalade jars by Lorenza Bozzoli for EDITIONS MILANO entirely hand-made by expert artisans from the highest quality marble from Italy. Produced in a limited number of 10 pieces using Verde Alpi marble, known for its intense dark green colour with light green and white quartz, each jar is as unique as the piece of stone it is crafted  from. Although light years away from the humble glass latch jar that inspired it, the exquisitely produced, beautiful jar has not been stripped of its utilitarian purpose, making it a perfect gift that can be as indispensable in use as it is beautiful to behold.

{ Editions Milano is an Italian high-end accessory, lighting and furniture brand that mixes traditional Italian craftsmanship with a chic Northern Italian aesthetic. Founded in 2016, the brand debuted with Credenza, a limited-edition series of storage furniture co-designed by architect-designer Patricia Urquiola and artist-graphic designer Federico Pepe. The Milan-based company has since presented collections made with typical Italian materials such as marble, porcelain and ceramic, designed by a roster of talented designers including Alessandra Facchinetti, Lorenza Bozzoli, Bethan Gray, Pietro Russo, Federico Peri, David/Nicolas and Nendo. }

EDITION OF 20

Created exclusively for the Verdant Edition, this limited-edition customization of KRAMA Studio’s twist-action premium ballpoint pen is compact, lightweight and extremely elegant, an exceptional writing companion in other words. Featuring a total of thirty-six facets, the pen’s hexagonal body parts are precision-milled from a solid piece of aluminum to minimize the use of material, before being powder-coated, and patiently assembled and finished by hand. A captivating piece of engineering, the pen offers great performance and easy handling, while the inspirational quote inscribed along the shank reads, “What if”, an invitation to let your imagination run wild.

{ Established in 2014, KRAMA Studio creates highly functional writing tools that stand out for their precision, longevity and durability as much as their minimal aesthetic. As its name suggests (in Greek “krama” means alloy), the studio was conceived as a collaborative venture and has since steadily gained recognition for the inventiveness of its designs and the quality of its products. Designed, produced and tested by Founder Billy Filippaios and Co-owner Eva Kalogeropoulou, the Studio’s products elevate humble, everyday objects to beautiful pieces of design. Precision machined from solid pieces of Brass and/or Aluminum, with minimal use of material, they also push the boundaries of what a CNC milling machine can do. Nothing in life should be taken for granted and the studio makes sure that even the simplest objects are worthy of our attention. }

Greek ceramist Daphne Leon’s work has a reputation for playfulness and exuberance as well as exquisite craftsmanship, all of which are encapsulated in this unique decorative plate she created for the Verdant Edition. Drawing inspiration from a childhood memory, Leon has envisioned a natural landscape in the form of a hilltop grove that echoes the collection’s verdant theme. Hand-sculpted and glazed in her Athens-based studio, the unique plate encapsulates Daphne’s sculptural approach to pottery as well as her whimsical sensibility.

{ Greek ceramist Daphne Leon creates exquisite hand-sculpted and hand-painted pieces from her Athenian studio. Engaged in both small and large bespoke ceramic projects, Daphne artfully tiptoes between naturalism and expressionism, creating vibrantly coloured and glazed ceramic dishes that stand out as much for their playfulness and exuberance as their craftsmanship. Daphne has collaborated with Simon Porte Jacquemus for his Mediterranean restaurant in Paris, the Benaki Museum Shop for a series of objects to commemorate the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence, and the Museum of Cycladic Art Shop. }

The sculptural keyboard that NONOBJECT studio has crafted for the Verdant Edition evocatively blends the world of high-tech design with the Tinian tradition of marble craftsmanship. CNC machine processed from a single block of green Oasis marble from the island of Tinos and finished by hand, the piece is a marvel of modern manufacturing in reflection of Apple’s sleek Magic Keyboard, yet at the same time it’s imbued with the soulful beauty of a craft that goes back millennia. Hand-engraved with the word ESCAPE, the piece is also a reminder that a digital time out is only a keystroke away.

{ NONOBJECT is a Greek design studio which designs and produces utilitarian art objects and collectible design pieces with a focus on high aesthetics, durability and sustainability. The studio was founded by Kosmas Serpetinis, whose family is synonymous with marble craftsmanship, with roots from the Cycladic Island of Tinos, home of one of the most renowned sculpture and marble carving schools in the world. Combining handmade techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation with advanced robotic applications, the studio creates unique quality objects from marble, as well as other environmentally friendly materials, guided by the principles of ‘slow design’ with the aim of promoting more conscious consumerism. }

EDITION OF 12

The inspiration behind this vase is the earliest documented form of floral abnormality, namely “double flowers”. Recorded over two thousand years ago by Greek philosopher Theophrastus, the double-flowered mutation occurs in garden flowers such as roses, peonies, geraniums, marigolds and carnations, producing stunningly beautiful flowers whose extra petals are in fact converted reproductive organs. Mutation in nature is an accidental change in the DNA sequence of an organism, resulting from errors in DNA replication during cell division, and is the driving force behind natural selection. Adorned with double-flowered forms, the vase is an ode to such ‘errors’: Errors in nature, in our lives, in society, in us. We welcome errors, they can create beauty/wonders.

{ Founded in Tinos during the summer of 2018, UNPR18T [UN[PROCESSED] REALITIES]is a design studio focusing on both bespoke and commercial projects. The Studio’s work is underpinned by common questions about the operation of the established systems of production and exploitation of matter, the culture of design, consumer habits and the perception of reality. Every project is the result of anthropological, sociological and geographical observation rather than a product-driven process. Co-founders designer Niki Danai Chania and visual artist and designer Dimitris Tampakis, working in collaboration with sculptor Giannis Dellatolas, combine natural and industrial materials as they explore conceptual dipoles such as Man vs. Nature, Paradox vs. Logical, and Rationalism vs. Mystical-spiritual. }
