An exemplary case of sustainability paired with a bottomless well of creativity, the New Hotel has the Campana Brothers written all over it. The Brazilian enfants terribles were invited to the Greek capital by powerhouse art collector Dakis Joannou to reinvent the former Olympic Palace Hotel from scratch in 2011, and the buzz has yet to die down. Ioannou made sure that the latest addition to his luxury Yes! Hotel chain - an acronym for Young, Enthusiastic, Seductive - was dotted with pieces from his personal collection, featuring works by Jack Pierson, Douglas Gordon, Laurie Anderson and Jenny Holzer, although it’s the retro telephone booth tagged  'Dirty Phone Call' that really gives the term ‘hotel amenities’ new meaning!

First designed by Iasonas Rizos in the 50s, the building started shedding its old layers during a site-specific workshop, where local craftsmen, designers and architects initiated the two brothers into the various facets of Greek culture and their potential implementation into luxury interiors. The result was a series of upcycled furniture that decorates the hotel's 79 rooms and suites, and is virtually indistinguishable from Joannou's precious collectibles.

On the ground floor, the New Taste restaurant serves up delicious organic meals and insists on baking its own bread and pastries on a daily basis. It has also gained a steady brunch following on Sundays with some of the best Eggs Benedict on planet Earth, energy-boosting juice combos and freshly ground coffee blends. This is definitely not the right place to think about skipping breakfast! If you’re not a morning person however, there’s no reason to feel left out.

The Art Lounge on the top floor is quietly beckoning with 360° views of the city’s historical landmarks and a novel concept: Playing off the New Hotel’s cultural sensibilities, it features over 2000 art books for guests to read while relaxing on the terrace, while the dining philosophy consists of a steady stream of small, scandalously delicious dishes, topped off with cocktails and your choice of cigars. When guilt inevitably starts to set in, just take yourself downstairs to the NEW Sense gym & wellness club for an intensely liberating workout, followed by a personalized treatment, tailored to fit your skin type. And then go back up to the Art Lounge and do it all over again!
