Saverio Cavalli

Saverio Cavalli (Valenza, North Italy; 1922 - 2012) was an Italian goldsmith, painter and sculptor known for his advanced craftsmanship and continuous experimentation in form and colour. A member of the Spatialism movement, and friend of its founder Lucio Fontana, Cavalli believed that the work of art should be a continuous dialogue between surface, colour, light, symbol, matter and time. He had the ability and skill to subvert the most advanced jewel-making and smithing techniques in a refined and dextrous way for the creation of harmonious and balanced abstract forms, creating a seductive microcosm of delicate artefacts that reflect the timeless beauty of Italian mid-century visual art. A true artist at heart, Cavalli believed that beauty was not only to be found in precious materials but also in form, colour, texture and composition; that is why he often used more base materials in his jewels such as iron, aluminum, nickel, paper, fabric and plastic.
