Phi Centre in Montreal, Canada has invited fashion designer Rad Hourani to curate a four-week event about his work and creative practice. As a guest curator, Hourani has put together a diverse programme throughout November 2013 which presents the inspirations, collaborations and ways of working behind his signature unisex designs. The exhibition titled ‘‘Rad Hourani: Seamless,’’ a retrospective of the designer’s work from the last five years, features anatomy drawings, patterns, photography, collections, and an interactive video installation. A pop-up store has also been set up, where visitors can buy (amongst other things) a limited edition book which is available in only 300 copies worldwide. Parallel to the exhibition, Rad Hourani has organised concerts by musicians Pierre Lapointe (14 November 2013) and Jacques Greene (29 November 2013).
Known for his singular UNISEX vision and origami-like designs, Rad Hourani (a Canadian born in Jordan in 1982) is the first designer in fashion history to present a unisex haute couture collection during Paris Fashion Week (January 2013). He currently lives and works in Paris, France.
[YatzerTip]: Gender bending on pointe shoes: Rad Hourani has created a film for NOWNESS, released on 11 November 2013. Titled ‘‘Unisex,’’ the film is a collaboration between Hourani and choreographer Édouard Lock, with music composed by Nico Muhly.
