Drawing inspiration from both the culture and recent history of her hometown Athens, Nina Pappa uses video stills of military parades to create collages that seem to bend time and space in a kaleidoscopic way. Using video stills from home-videos uploaded on YouTube (which explains the characteristic colour palette of the resulting works), each collage consists of three images, which are cut up in vertical strips and then put together as one. This treatment of the images reflects the linear forms, steady pulse and forward movement of the military ranks she depicts.
Born in Athens in 1963, Nina Pappa studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and at the MIT, and holds a PhD from the School of Architecture, NTUA. Her work focuses mainly on the perception and understanding of time. She has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She lives and works in Athens.
Nina Pappa’s collages are the subject of her latest solo exhibition titled ''2013'' which will be on display at ABOUT: gallery in Athens, Greece, from October 24th to November 23rd 2013.
