Alexander Calder

Alexander Calder was a world-renowned American sculptor, considered the originator of the "mobile", a type of moving sculpture with articulated balancing parts. Calder's mobiles have become synonymous with his work, to the extend that his other sculptures are described simply as "stabiles". Highly collectible and sought-after, Calder's work is today managed by the Calder Foundation. Calder’s mobile Poisson volant (Flying Fish) (1957) was sold by Christie's New York for $25.9 million in 2014, setting an auction record for the sculptor.
